Red Bull Dance Your Style stirs up Kisumu city.

Red Bull Dance Your Style, the biggest urban street dance competition in the world, made a stop in Kisumu at United Mall over the past weekend (27 April) as part of its nationwide tour.

The event united the city’s dance community and enthusiasts and presented thrilling dance entertainment, networking and stiff battle sessions that saw Kisumu’s best dancers rise to the top. Lilesh Bulimo emerged the winner and Harrington Zachariah took first runner-up position.

Lilesh Bulimo shares, “The event was electrifying with cut-throat battle sessions.I am so elated to have won, this is the best feeling ever! This win is evident of my growth after failing to make it as one of the top qualifiers in last year’s edition,” adding, “Red Bull Dance Your Style has been more than a competition, this platform was a fun interaction between amateurs and pros immersing in a shared passion for dance.” 

The next stop for Red Bull Dance Your Style is Kenyatta University in Nairobi (11 May), after which the competition will head over to the Coast in Mombasa (25 May) then back to Nairobi for a university qualifier at USIU (15 June) before the official Nairobi competition (29 June) and the grand finals in Nairobi (10 August) – that will bring all the top two winners from every qualifier for the ultimate battle.

The winner from the grand finals will represent Kenya at the world finals happening in Mumbai, India for the world finals (9 Nov). 

Red Bull Dance Your Style is a global competition with 51 counties participating. Kenya’s ultimate champ will win an all-expense paid trip to India for the World Finals this November.

The competition has no judges because the crowd decides who wins by voting for their favorite dancers by holding up blue or red placards to choose a winner, after each battle.

Dancers are expected to bring their A Game –  creativity, freestyle, and musical skills in the competition that allows all urban dance styles except for break dancing.

The DJ plays unpredictable music, and the dancers will have to adapt, dance their style and impress the crowd. In other words, YOU decide the champion, who guarantees a place in the world final.
