Shorn Arwa recovers her lost Instagram account.

Written by on February 17, 2025

In the world of digital content creation, losing access to your social media account isn’t just an inconvenience; it can feel like a full-blown crisis.

Many would equate it to misplacing an entire career portfolio.

This was the nightmare that Shorn Arwa faced when she lost access to her verified Instagram account, which boasted a staggering 239,000 followers, back in February 2023.

Imagine being locked out of the very platform that had catapulted you into the limelight your cash cow and having to start over.

Picture this a top-tier content creator forced to rebuild an audience in an industry where follower count often determines opportunities.

It wasn’t just an account; it represented years of hard work, dedication, and meticulously curated aesthetics.

Recounting her ordeal, Shorn shared,

“In February of 2023, I lost my phone in South Africa. Since it was my only trusted device, I couldn’t log back into Instagram. I tried everything I found online, but nothing worked. I spent so much money trying to recover it, but to no avail. I had to start a new account from scratch, and that meant losing job opportunities because no company wants to collaborate with an influencer who has zero followers. It was incredibly painful and sad, but I never gave up.”

For two years, Shorn attempted everything: password resets, customer service emails, and consulting tech experts nothing worked.

With each failed attempt, the sting of lost opportunities deepened. Her Instagram account wasn’t just about follower counts; it was her brand, her career, and her connection to an audience that had grown alongside her.

“I always knew that one day I would get my account back. To most, it might seem like just another account, but to me, it was what brought me into the spotlight. I had a strong attachment to it. All the hard work, the struggles, and the stories started with this account,” the mother of one shared, ecstatically celebrating her eventual win.

The road to recovery wasn’t easy. Starting over meant rebuilding from scratch—zero engagement, zero sponsorships, and zero visibility.

For an influencer, that’s like a musician waking up one day to find all their songs have been erased from the internet.

Despite the setbacks, Shorn kept pushing forward. She continued creating content, engaging with her audience, and refusing to let circumstances dictate her destiny. Then, the moment she least expected arrived.

While up late soothing her restless baby, a random thought occurred to her: “Try logging in and see.” At 3 AM, bleary-eyed and exhausted, she decided to take a chance.

“Aaaaaand after two years, I got it back—the same month I lost it. I can’t believe it,” she exclaimed.

Just like that, her Instagram account was restored. Two years of frustration vanished in an instant.
