SHOW BUSSINESS: WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE KENYAN ARTIST?

THE PROBLEM

Why doesn’t the Kenyan artist take initiative to produce quality albums? Why is there no album culture in the 254? Is it that we are lazy at our jobs and/or passions or is the Kenyan market not ready? Well, I think the market is ready but its so used to getting mediocre content. The Kenyan market is flooded with so much trash content that we are unable to recognize the real deal when we receive it. I call that plastic! The music industry needs to be pumped up in terms of content but let it not be just content, let it be content of value and potential.

GHOST WRITERS AND LIVE BANDS

Should the artist embrace ghost writers? Of cause yes, often have we heard that two heads are better than one, but that shouldn’t limit you from writing and perfecting your pen. Getting a ghost writer doesn’t mean you can’t write. Take us back to the golden age of lyrically sane music hard beats and creatively executed videos. We should also strive to create music that can be played live and put on shows that awe the crowds because at the end of the day anyone can get up on a stage and sing!

MIXTAPES, EPs AND ALBUMS

I would love to see the Kenyan artist rise, grow and glow to heights higher than the ones archived because the world is ready to receive us and embrace us. Mixtapes, Eps, and albums should be a norm and so is the buying of these honorable mentions. Touring, performance and incorporation of live band music should be the epitome of every live performance.

The Kenyan artist has potential but they need to recognize that. We should find that central loving place for our music and bring that to our music and ourselves. Stop settling for less.
