Stephen Otieno Adera, also known as Stevo Simple Boy, has become popular for his viral phrases, which are now being used online in various contexts.

His latest slogan, “Kumbavu Zangu, Umbwa Mimi,” has sparked a challenge on TikTok. In an interview with the YouTube channel Kipawa, Stevo explained the origin of the phrase.

“Unajua mimi ni mhenga, mhenga aliyebaki Kenya hii. This is my unique thing that others are not doing.” He enjoys referring to himself as Mzee wa Matulinga and described how a moment of idleness led to the catchphrase.

He wanted to capture his fans’ attention with something inspiring.

“Actually, I was just at home, looking at my phone. You see? I was doing something and thought, ‘What can I do today to make my fans happy?’ So, I came up with ‘Kumbavu Zangu, Umbwa Mimi.’ I posted it online, and suddenly everyone was saying ‘Umbwa Mimi’ and joining the challenge,” he shared, amused by how quickly Kenyans embraced it.

His other recent phrase is “Mefi Mefi Mushkila.” Thanks to its popularity, he has secured a deal and will be performing in Saudi Arabia next week.

“It is in Arabic. So when I said that catchphrase, you know what happened? It’s lucky that I’m going to Saudi Arabia for the first time ever on September 23. It means ‘hakuna shida, mambo iko shega,'” he explained to K24.
