Sonko addresses critics of abandoning Conjestina.

Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko has stepped back into the ring, this time defending his efforts to help ex-Kenyan boxing champion Conjestina Achieng against accusations of mere PR stunts.

Following news of Conjestina’s relapse after returning home, Sonko claims he did his best to support her rehabilitation, but faced hurdles from her family.

He said he even considers a potential third chance for her driven by his “big heart” and commitment to documented assistance in such cases.

“Fortunately, my heart is bigger than myself. At times, I fail to control it for the love I have for the people, especially the less fortunate, and I think this is the reason I initially gave Conjee the first, second, and now maybe I will be forced to give a third and final chance again coz I’m always serious with all the cases we undertake and since we always document and account for the progress of all our sensitive cases,” Sonko said.

Meanwhile, media personality Carol Radull painted a sobering picture. Having visited Conjestina, she confirmed the relapse and acknowledged her limitations in helping.

Many, including Radull, have attempted to guide Conjestina toward recovery, yet a long-term solution remains elusive.

Despite the setback, Radull underscored the importance of continued support. She pledged to remain a friend, offering visits and communication and inviting others in the Yala area to do the same.

She praised Sonko’s past efforts, recognising his role in the complex journey.
