Budding Kenyan artist and social media personality Stevo Simple Boy, also known as Stephen Odera, has expressed his frustrations with Tanzanian multi-award-winning artist Harmonize.
Currently, in Tanzania, Stevo alleges that Harmonize, also known as Konde Boy, “stole” a key line from one of his most viral hit songs, “Inauma,” and has never apologized or attempted to make amends.
Stevo, known for the song “Shega,” has become so infuriated by this situation that he is open to a physical altercation with Harmonize.
In an interview with stBongoTV, Stevo claimed that Harmonize used the phrase “Ianuma itabidi uzoee” in his song “Hainistui” without seeking his permission.
As a result, the Kibra-based singer is now demanding a collaboration with Harmonize. He expressed that he is ready to confront the bongo artist if his requests are not honoured or if he responds with hostility.
“I have so many issues. One person I’m looking for is Harmonize,” Stevo Simple Boy stated at the beginning of the interview.
He added candidly, “There was a time he sang my song ‘Inauma,’ but itabidi uzoee. I’ve come to his country to talk and work together.”
Using the media to reach Harmonize, the “Mafi Mafi Mushkila” singer said, “Reporters, please pass on this message: ‘Stevo Simple Boy, the Dragon of Africa, wants to meet him.’ If he comes in peace, there will be no problem between us. But if he brings trouble, then there will be conflict.”
Ironically, Harmonize’s song was released four years ago in January 2020. At that time, fellow upcoming artist Byzzo, who featured in the song alongside Stevo, also accused Harmonize of “stealing” their song.
“Even I have been receiving calls and texts from fans saying our song ‘Inauma but itabidi uzoee’ has been taken by Harmonize. Since no one has ever asked for permission to use that song, it’s troubling.
We have spoken with our management, and they inquired if there had been any communication, but they said there hasn’t been, although they are still investigating.
So, as it stands, we don’t know anything, and no one has asked for our permission,” Byzzo remarked at the time.
Stevo Simple Boy shared a video of this situation on his Instagram page, captioning it, “Habari ndio hiyo, Hii inauma but itakua ngumu kuzoea.”
Stevo is in Tanzania with his protégé Machabe, accompanied by Gen Z Goliath. The trio has also been sightseeing.
On December 21st and 22nd, Stevo will perform at Rumurti Stadium alongside Dufla Diligon and Iyanii for the Joali Tournament Season 2.
