The Uasin Gishu Deputy Governor John Barorot has resigned.
He announced his resignation during a meeting with senior county staff at the Eka Hotel in Eldoret in the presence of Governor Dr Jonathan Bii.
A formal announcement will be made shortly at the Uasin Gishu County headquarters.
His resignation comes shortly after he denied claims that he had quit office.
Speculation arose after Barorot skipped President William Ruto’s event to confer City status to Eldoret, leading to questions about his whereabouts.
In an interview on Friday, he dismissed the reports of his resignation as rumours but did not explain why he was absent from the key city event.
There has been speculation about his working relationship with Governor Bii, but two weeks ago during a prayer meeting at the county headquarters, Governor Bii informed the gathering that Barorot was on leave.
“Sorry I forgot to tell you that our Deputy Governor engineer Barorot is not with us here because he is on leave but we are together in all this,” said Bii.
Engineer Barorot missed almost all preparations for the elevation of Eldoret to City status except one where he praised the role of the media in branding and marketing the new city.
Barorot is known to be a very reserved person who embraces a simple lifestyle and most of the time drives himself in the town.
When they took over, Bii and Barorot worked closely attending functions together.
