Unique Irish tradition that allows women to propose to men every leap year.

Written by on February 29, 2024

February 29th is the only day that allows Irish women to propose to their men and it would not look awkward or demeaning to the men.

The tradition is associated with St. Patrick and St.Brigid. It is alleged that she went down on her knee during her birth month and proposed to him.

This Irish tradition dates back 1,500 years to the supposed moment when St. Bridget proposed to St. Patrick. However, St. Patrick biographer Philip Freeman believes this story is false.

“There’s nothing in the earliest sources on St. Patrick and St. Bridget to suggest that Bridget ever proposed to Patrick,” Freeman said. “I think since Bridget was a nun and Patrick was a celibate priest, this is pretty unlikely.”

Leaving the facts aside, most people believe this tradition is real and very many Irish women use that opportunity to propose to the men of their dreams.

Every Adam has an Eve but for Irish women, they are the Adams every leap year and look for their desired Eves.

Something good about this tradition is that if the lady goes down on one knee and proposes to the man and the man refuses the man must gift her either a kiss, gloves, a silk gown or in some tellings, a fur coat!

Ladies, do you think this tradition should spread all over the World or are you more of the waiting till he poops the question?
