Yes! The topic is heated Do you wax or shave? Before we get down into details, self-care is a very essential thing to do. The other day as l was having a conversation with my neighbor, we happened to talk about waxing/shaving and she asked, “What is the difference between waxing and shaving, because the end result is the same, hair removal.”
There is a very big difference, waxing is swiftly pulling hair from the root through repetitive tugs while shaving is more of a trim, only removing hair from the surface of the skin and leaving the root intact. Well, someone might say, why don’t l go for the easy option rather than having a complicated way of removing the unwanted hair?
What you need to know before waxing.
Waxing.
· Pain- The pain can last up to 2 days, to get rid of it apply a cool compress and don’t forget to be gentle.
· Redness- Typically the redness should go away with 24hour after waxing. Don’t treat it, it will go away.
· Irritation- This is a common reaction to waxing that occurs after you have removed your hair, but it shouldn’t worry you it eventually goes away.
· Rash- Cleanse and exfoliate to avoid rashes.
· Bumps- Bumps are a result of ingrown hairs. Once the hair grows out, the bumps quickly disappears.
· Sun sensitivity- You can apply sunscreen to avoid sun damage, try avoiding beach and/or pool for 48hours after waxing.
· Allergic reaction- Get you the suitable waxing products to avoid getting allergic reaction.
· Infection- This is mainly caused by inflammation which typically goes away on its own without any treatment.
· Ingrown hairs- Make sure you moisturize the skin until the day before waxing to keep the place hydrated. This helps loosen dead skin that can create ingrown hairs.
· Scarring- This shouldn’t happen if you’re waxed gently.
· Burns- If you happen to get a wax burn, run the burn under cool water for 20 minutes. Rinse the area with mild soap. Don’t apply ice directly to the skin.
What to do after waxing.
· Wear loose-fitting clothing to avoid friction and irritation.
· Avoid perfumed products, lotions and creams, which can irritate sensitized skin.
· Apply an over-the-counter cortisone cream on the waxed area to reduce inflammation.
· Avoid excessive activity for 24hours after waxing.
· Don’t use oily or drying skin products immediately.
What you need to know before shaving.
Itching- The irritation makes you feel itchy after you shave. The pull of a razor can twist or twist or redirect the hair follicle when you shave.
Nicks and cuts- Try and be extra careful while shaving not to hurt yourself, although it’s bound to happen when it does don’t panic, wait for it to clot up.
Razor burn- This is mostly caused by friction from the razor and ingrown hairs. Try using Aloe Vera which helps in soothing and healing burns.
Folliculitis- In case you get folliculitis, get yourself over-the-counter antibiotic cream, gels or hydrogen peroxide as first aid.
Ingrown hairs- Make sure you moisturize the skin until the day before waxing to keep the place hydrated. This helps loosen dead skin that can create ingrown hairs.
What to do after shaving.
After you dry off, apply moisturizer or oil, preferably alcohol-free, to all sides of your shaved area. Since soap can dry out your skin, using lotion or moisturizing oil after you shave helps prevent itchy irritation and maintain moisture your skin needs.
