Why Jcole is Making Headlines in Africa

J Cole has been making news for all the right reasons. The 11 times nominated award winner released his album in late spring on May 14 2021 which was recorded between 2018-2021 in the Sheltuh (Raleigh, North Carolina) studio.

According to Wikipedia, it was released on May 14, 2021 by Dreamville Records, Roc Nation and Interscope Records.

The album was executive produced by Cole, Ibrahim Hamad, and T-Minus. It also featured guest vocals from Morray, 21 Savage, Lil Baby, Bas, and 6LACK. It became Cole’s first album since 2013’s Born Sinner to contain guest features. Production was handled by multiple producers, including Cole himself, T-Minus, Timbaland, Boi-1da, Frank Dukes, DJ Dahi, Tae Beast, and Jake One, among others.

The album was supported by three singles: “The Climb Back”, “Interlude” and “My Life”.

The Off-Season received positive reviews from critics and topped the US Billboard 200, selling 282,000 album-equivalent units in its first week, earning Cole his sixth consecutive number-one album in the country.

The American rapper whose full name is Jermaine Lamarr Cole has also been making headlines in Africa since his arrival in Rwanda on May 8th 2021. The 2020 Grammy Award winner was in Africa for not only performing but also making sparking rumors on signing a new deal.

During his stay, the Rwanda Basketball coach, Alan Major, confirmed to the news on Rwanda TV, that J.Cole was  to be signed in the club  and is  expected to play for Rwandan side the Patriots BBC in the inaugural season of the Basketball Africa League.

Rapper J. Cole of the Rwanda Patriots BBC has completed his contractual obligation to the Basketball Africa League and has departed from Rwanda because of a “family obligation,” 

Jermaine Cole had 5 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds in 45 minutes of three preliminary games. The expectation was that the Grammy Award-winning rapper would play in three to six games. The Patriots BBC play Mozambique’s Ferroviario de Maputo in the playoff quarterfinals on 29th May.
