The Elephant falls from the tree once again.

Written by on December 29, 2023

Since the season started, all talks have been about the elephant in the room. The one thing Arsenal haven’t wanted to talk about.

If you ask any Arsenal fan they’ll tell you this season has been different.

Whereas last year the Gunners were hurtling at the top speed of an inevitable crash, this season they haven’t hit top gear.

The Gunner’s defence led them to the top of the league on Christmas but the same can’t be said after yesterday’s defeat.

This was the first time the Gunners got beaten at home.  Goals by Thomas Soucek in the 13th minute and former Arsenal player Mavropanos in the 55th gave West Ham a surprising win at Emirates Stadium and continued a midseason blip by the Gunners.

Arsenal has won only One of their last four league matches. They were at the top of the table for Christmas and need to defeat Fulham in any away match on Sunday to maintain their position at the top heading into 2024.

Currently, Arsenal is in the second position, trailing Liverpool by two points. Liverpool’s next match is on New Year’s Day.

This season only Liverpool have conceded less than their solid back line. When it comes to goals scored, though, Arsenal do not even rank in the top six.

The 2-0 defeat against West Ham was an eye-opener to Mikel Arteta on how disappointing they played the game.

After the match, Arteta had this to say about the game.

“When you look at how much we generated in the game, to see the result is very disappointing, “But they were better than us in both boxes. They had two shots, – with the penalty three. We had 30, I don’t know how many touches in the box, how many situations, how many opportunities to score and we haven’t done it. In football you have to do that better if you want to win.”
