Willis Austin Chimano announced a new chapter in his career this month with the release of his first-ever single since Sauti Sol’s split. In an Instagram post, Chimano shared:
“Here we go, my new journey begins… I’m so grateful for how far life has brought me. I’ve lived for 37 years, and what a ride it has been! My previous chapter defined and fulfilled me, but like a book we’ve finished reading, it’s time to turn a new page.”
He expressed gratitude for still being able to share his voice — a gift he values deeply — with his fans. Chimano is excited about building a community, thriving, and rising on his own terms.
“Being part of @sautisol was the greatest privilege of my life. Now, I’m embarking on this amazing journey and looking forward to it. ‘Do You Remember’ is my first single and the start of a series of releases planned for this year. So let’s go! Chimano as an individual is a new artist. See you on the 9th of August and beyond.”
In May 2023, Sauti Sol announced an indefinite hiatus from group projects. The band members—Bien-Aime Baraza, Willis Chimano, Polycarp Otieno, and Savara Mudigi—stated:
“While this hiatus marks the end of a specific chapter, it also represents a new beginning for us. We are eager to explore new creative avenues and personal endeavors. Our friendship and shared vision will continue to drive our future projects.”
They continued, “Sauti Sol has been an incredible journey for us, both as musicians and friends. We are filled with gratitude for the love and support we have received over the years. While we take this time to pursue our individual and collective passions, we remain committed to our friendship and our shared businesses. The bond between us is unbreakable, and we are excited about what the future holds.”
