OUT- OF- BODY EXPERIENCE.
Written by Ann Munyasya on July 21, 2021
It is described as dissociative episodes, a sensation of your consciousness leaving your body. These episodes are often reported by people who have had near-death experiences. People also call it ‘OBE’ in short.
If you have watched the movie titled, ‘Behind-her-eyes’ on Netflix you know what I’m talking about. If you haven’t, then I highly recommend it.
How true is it that you can leave your body and come back to it? For those who have had these episodes they said that;
· It’s a feeling of floating outside your body.
· A sense that what’s happening is very real.
· The feeling that you’re looking down at yourself from above.
· An altered perception of the world.
In 2014 researchers at the University of Ottawa studied the brain activity of a 24-year-old Canadian woman and a student of psychology who claimed she could leave her body at will. The woman asserted that she had learned how to leave her physical body behind when she was bored with sleep time at preschool.
According to google this is how you can have an out-of-body episode;
- Set a firm intention to have an OBE.
- Fall asleep in your regular bed while thinking about your intention.
- Lie down while focusing on your intention to have an OBE.
- Imagine yourself leaving your body and exploring your home.
- Keep focusing on having an OBE as you fall deep asleep.
- Be patient and record your experience in a notebook.
Experts have linked OBE to several medical conditions such as, Cardiac arrest, brain injuries, epilepsy,anxiety, depression, electric shock and migraine. I know you might wonder if having an OBE causes any risk, well no case has been reported to have caused any sort of risk yet.
The bible too has mentioned out-of-body experiences. 2 Corinthians 12:1–4, says “I must go on boasting. Although there is nothing to be gained, I will go on to visions and revelations from the Lord.’’
‘’I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know—God knows. And I know that this man—whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows—was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.” Says Andra M. Smith a psychiatrist.
I had an interview with a theology student/pastor and she said, “The spirit and physical worlds should not match, if you find yourself engaging in things that make your spirit and physical worlds meet you should refrain from them.”
She then added, “Just like how pastors speak in tongues and we are not able to interpret it unless there is a translator, it should show you that the spirit and physical world should never meet.”
If you have had any episode of the OBE, and your episode was followed by; Severe headache, flashing lights in your vision,thoughts of suicide, loss of consciousness,low moods or changes in mood you should consider visiting a doctor.
Would you want to have an out-of-body experience if you had the chance?
