Tory Lanez Sentenced to 10 years in Prison for Shooting Megan Thee Stallion

Allegedly, Tory Lanez shot Grammy winner Megan Thee Stallion in the feet during an argument between the pair after a party in 2020. Later on that year, he was found guilty on three gun-related charges in December and has been held in jail since.
The shooting left Megan Thee Stallion in need of surgery to remove bullet fragments from her foot. The Attorney said after the verdict that her fame helped bring attention to the issue of violence against women. The shooting occurred during the journey home from a pool party hosted by reality star Kylie Jenner.
Previously, prosecutors had called for the 30-year-old Canadian rapper to be sentenced to 13 years in prison. Tory’s defense team had called for probation and a residential drug treatment program that would help the artist deal with alcoholism, which they say he developed to cope with childhood trauma.

Tory Lanez, whose legal name is Daystar Peterson, was found guilty last of three felonies related to the shooting, which left Megan injured to the foot.
On Monday 7th August 2023, In her testimony, Megan Thee Stallion said, “Since I was viciously shot by the defendant, I have not experienced a single day of peace,” she said in a written statement that was read in court. “Slowly but surely, I’m healing and coming back, but I will never be the same.”

At a court hearing, Tory Lanez said that he still cares for Megan Thee Stallion and they bond over the fact that they both lost their mothers and used alcohol to numb the pain together, said Meghann Cuniff, a reporter who was in the courtroom.
There still remains a fan base online, who maintain that Tory was convicted wrongly and the justice system should revisit the case. They group is using #FreeToryLanez to express their support for the Canadian-born musician.
