An 18-years-old Anastatia Mayers and her mum Keisha Schahaff becomes the first mother and daughter be part of Virgin Galactic space exploration. The duo got a chance to travel after winning  a place on Virgin Galactic’s second commercial flight in a prize draw. They will also be the first Caribbeans to make the trip. The pair is scheduled to take off from New Mexico this week on Thursday.

Imagine planning to move to another country to study but end up getting winning a ticket to space exploration? The 18 year old Anastatia says, it was her decision to travel from the Caribbean to study in Scotland that led to the opportunity to go to space. Her mother entered competition when she was traveling to the UK to sort her daughter’s visa. Months later, Richard Branson and his team visited her home and announced she was the winner. Fate made the space exploration possible.

The mission, named Galactic 02, will be the first commercial space visit with its advertised price for a ride being $450,000(£350,000) approximately KSh. 64,305,000. The previous mission, Galactic 01  took place in June. It reached an altitude of 279,000ft (85km). The space exploration visit will certainly use the same path.

Anastatia, will be the second youngest person to go to space and she hopes to inspire others. Oliver Daemen. Oliver Daemen is the youngest person to travel into space at just 18-years-old! He obtained his high school diploma in 2020 and is enrolled at Utrecht University. He studies Science and Innovation Management.

If you’re wondering how on Earth he reserved this highly coveted once-in-a-lifetime ticket, he secured it through an auction. It makes him the first paying customer to travel into the dark abyss.

The mother and daughter will be joined by former Team GB Olympian Jon Goodwin from Newcastle. He will become the second person with Parkinson’s to go to space as well as the first Olympian.
