Celebrated digital content creator, stand-up comedian, and emerging entrepreneur Crazy Kennar, born Kennedy Odhiambo, recently revealed that he spends approximately Sh. 130,000 almost every week.
At 26 years old, Kennar explained that this expenditure was a necessity due to his life situation, as he now resides in two different countries.
He mostly spends his weekdays in South Africa, where he is studying film, and returns home to Kenya on weekends to work on personal projects, shoot his hilarious skits, and manage the production of his upcoming shows.
“During the week, I am in South Africa, and on the weekends, I come back to Kenya. In South Africa, I attend film school, where I am studying creative writing at one of the best film schools in Africa,” the comedian shared during a recent interview with Oga Obinna.
He also mentioned that he often has to travel for even the most mundane things because food products in South Africa differ from those in Kenya.
“For instance, you can’t find Kensalt in South Africa, so I have to come home to get it. The product branding isn’t the same either, which forces me to travel back and forth between the two countries. I need to balance my time between school and my projects.”
Touching on the expenses he incurs in pursuit of bettering his skills, the 26-year-old noted he understands the occasional travelling is quite expensive but in the same breathe it is a huge necessity which he feels in the long run will bear him fruits.
“The ticket is Sh.130,000. It might be expensive, but why am I doing it? I treat it as an investment—an investment of the mind,” Kennar shared.
Funny enough, when the comedian first visited the country he had no intentions of making it his second home.
“I have a house there right now… it is like a store right now though because it has been a minute since I was there. You know, when I went to visit South Africa for the first time it was via ‘Visit South Africa’ they actually invited me to go visit.
And while I was there, I just thought ‘why don’t I study there?’ And now, I am a student for the next three years,” Kennar said.
